We got this for our Bed and Breakfast business. Previously, we had several large Bodums, but they kept breaking.This press is sturdy and well made. Obviously, it will dent or scratch, but it's going to last many years and will save us a lot of money on carafes.The filter and lid are built entirely of stainless steel (the unit has no plastic or rubber parts at all). People complain about a rubber smell when plastic parts are used.In contrast to the Bodum, the Grunwerg has no places which are hard to clean. The lid part is double wall stainless steel with a hole through it for the plunger. There are no nooks and crannies for grease to collect, except where the plunger goes through, and that doesn't need cleaning.You can pour just fine when the lid is in any position, but it tapers on one side so you can turn it and pour faster.In contrast to the glass-carafe Bodum, the Grunwerg pours much better: it does not spill out the sides even when poured fast.The filter from our old Bodum works for the Grunwerg, it's the same size.It keeps coffee hot a lot longer than a glass carafe, but not nearly as long as a thermos. It would be fine for a long breakfast.There are two things I would improve: have it in brushed stainless steel, or even a paint finish, to make it easier to keep clean. And, have an indicator on the top of the lid, so that you know where to turn it when you want to pour fast.The above are minor improvements to an already very well-thought-out and near-perfect design.This is a product made without any major planned-obsolescence features (I'm sure the filter will have to be replaced someday), and Grunwerg should be congratulated for that fact.
